Dare To Be You

OMG, I have been gone for a little bit and was planning to stay away until after the holidays until I saw this video.  Sug betta preach!  I saw a poster on Facebook that read 'Stop Trying To Fit In, When You Were Born To Stand Out'!  I printed it out and posted it in my cube.  It's my life's motto.  Anyway, if I don't get back on here before the year is out, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of you.  And a special shout out to my King, who turns 39 on New Year's Eve.  Enjoy the vid!

Thrift Shopping

A couple of weeks ago, whilst hubby was out, I decided to walk down the block to this little Jewish church that has thrift items for sale.  They are always out there from 9-2, but up until recently I never went in.  I mean, a church with thrift items?? Thoughts can be deceiving. This is the second time I have come out of there with some pretty fabulous pieces and the only thing that held me back from buying more, was lack of cash.

I LOVE color: Shirt $2

I originally picked this up in yellow, but figured I could do more with the pink: Sweater $1

C'mon you know I couldn't leave this vintage piece behind AND it had a belt?!: Vintage wool cape $8

This was my hot ticket item.  It looks even better in person.  I know a little old rich, Jewish, woman had this in her closet at one point in time, but now it's mine.  The buttons are so fab: Jacket $6

Natural Hair: Pumpkin Bun

If you've been natural for awhile, you know that there are more than a few days that we fall into 'styling' ruts!  Mine usually come during the colder months when I still wanna be cute, but have to take into account protective styling (cold weather is brutal on kinkier textures like mine).  I came across this video on youtube and I think it's a MUST try and it seems pretty simple to do.  Although, I don't think my hair will french roll all that easily like hers did.  My hair is muey rebellious...lol  I'm still gonna try.  Very nice for the upcoming holidays.

Tried True and Reviewed - Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes

What is it?

Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes gently remove dirt, sweat and makeup (eye makeup too!) without the need to rinse. Whether you're out and about, going for a run, or having a late night, these towelettes make it a snap to refresh on-the-go. Packed with green superfoods these all-natural, biodegradable towelettes naturally exfoliate, detoxify, and rejuvenate all-in-one. Stay gorgeous, and go from zero to clean in seconds!

BB's Review

Pro: Natural/Organic, soothing, these wipes remain moist till the very last one, priced at $5.99, can be found in local drugstores, can reapply makeup with no issues

Con: You need about two wipes to remove all your makeup

Would I buy again: HECK YEAH!  The price is amazing and y'all should know how I feel about natural and organic beauty items

Alternative: Korres also has natural wipes in their brand, but they are more expensive and dry out fairly quickly

How many stars? 4 out of 5 stars

Comments: I'm still pretty dedicated to MAC's make-up remover wipes, but from all the other brands I've tried (and there have been many), YTC comes in a close second.  Both brands will remain in rotation in my beauty bag.  Sadly, I just can't shake MAC's wipes.

P.S. I'll be doing more reviews in the future.  I've been sent many items and have been picking up things here and there.  It's about time, don't ya think?

Tracee Ellis Ross - Fashion for Reed Between The Lines

I came across this video of Tracee Ellis Ross taking us inside the closet of her character in her new show, Reed Between the Lines.  I absolutely ADORE Tracee's style!  She is one my fashion icons, if not my favorite.

On another note, what are we thinking about the show? I've been watching it faithfully and it had me laughing in a couple episodes.  I think it needs a bit of tweaking, but I really want it to do well.

What I Wore - Outfit of The Day

For some reason, this outfit looked better in my head than they do in pictures? Oh well. These jeans were a SCORE from Anthropologie. Jeans I had been stalking for months, but what's new...lol.  Originally they were $198 and I got them for...........$19!  You can't see it but they are actually high-waist, bell-bottom jeans.  I had to hem them because I thought they were too long. I think I will pull it out because I think NOW, they are too short??

Top: Vintage/Thrift, Jeans: Adriano Goldschmied Farrah Jeans, Shoes: Lucky Brand, Hat: c/o Daffy's

Love Me Some Beyonce

I must be living under a rock?  It took me digging thru youtube on a rainy Saturday evening, sans hubby, to find out that my bestie-in-my-head had premiered three new videos?  C'mon, y'all should know by now, I ADORE me some Beyonce.  Like her or not (better nobody say nothing bad about Beyonce), other than Oprah, she's the hardest working woman in show business.

Sidebar:  Her sis Solange's style has been seriously giving me life these days! Is it just me?

I can't hear this song and not think about how she premiered a baby bump...sigh

Hmmmm, looks like she did some parts before pregnancy and some after???

What happened to Andre 3000?  I love the hair (mostly everyone) in this video

Versace for H&M

Is there any need to further this post?  The title says it all!  I had an OMG! moment when I first found out.  Versace is BOLD.  It's Bright, It's DARING (have you seen Donatella's face?).  Although the line is set to be sold in over 300 stores, what saddens me is that I'm not sure if any of the Philadelphia stores will see this collection.  Last year a friend and I went to check out Lanvin, got to the store and there was no Lanvin in site.  Good news though, this collection will be available online November 17.  If you head over to H&M.com, you can enter to win a trip to NYC for an exclusive viewing party.  I'm heading over there as soon as I finish typing this post.

"The collection for H&M is the essence of Versace. For the collaboration we've brought back from the archives, as well as from more recent collections, some of the icons of Versace, such as the bright prints, the Greek key and daring cuts. I can't wait to see how H&M's wide audience will make these pieces their own," says Donatella Versace. - c/o Vogue.co.uk

Want to see some of the pieces before it goes up on the H&M site?  Vogue has a preview HERE!

Winter Hair Part 1

I've been obsessed with wigs (ummm, before they became muey popular), for years now.  I think it's one of THE best ways to change up your style, length and/or color.  Wigs are also a great way to protect your hair from harsh winters (when rocked correctly).  Braids are another great alternative, but sometimes,I don't want to be in it for the long haul...lol  Anywho, I've been searching for a new wig for this winter and wanted to kind of stay away from the curly do's.  I have too many of those and just bought another one.  For this go round, I want something kinda straight with waves to it, since I've been missing my relaxed hair for a minute now.  I was thinking about purchasing this lace front GLS50 from FridayNightHair (mind you I purchased a wet-n-wavy from them last year and NEVER wore it...I'm a hotMESS.net), then came across this video from PhillyDiva19154.  SOLD!!!

There will be more protective styles this Winter, so stay tuned.

Vintage Thrift

I was suffering from a NASTY cold last week, hence my lack of posts.  By the weekend, I was a little better.  Enough to go shopping...lol  Here are two of the pieces I picked up at my local Salvation Army (I picked up a few blouses, not shown).   I love mixing high and low priced items.

Vintage Brown Leather Boots - there is a story behind these.  The boots were priced at $10 and I was more than willing to pay, since I've been looking for a pair of brown boots for FOREVER (so mad that I purchased a pair for $115 online, but they are returnable).  Anywho, I met a friend at the store and she was like NO WAY you're paying that price?!  Talk them down to $5!!!!!  I was too much of a punk, so she grabbed the boots from my hand, took them to the counter, came back to me and said 'They said give them $5.'  I should have gotten my friend's number.  She's my new bestie and I don't even know her name.  Needless to say I'm VERY happy.

There were so many beautiful bags to choose from on the particular day I went.  It's usually a hit or miss?  Not sure if this bag was leather and I didn't asked.  I just could not leave it in the store.  It was only $5, very well-made and very spacious. The straps are uber long, so I can wear it on my shoulders or cross-body.  SCORE on both items.  There was a FAB coat, that I had my eye on, but decided to wait for it to go half off (everyday a particular color is 50% off and Wednesdays most, if not all are half off).

I love my round-the-way THRIFT store.

MAC's Posh Paradise, Fall Colour Collection and Style Driven Haul

This post is muey late, but...  I was invited to a MAC event mid September to preview new (now old...lol) collections that were coming out.  They called me on my anniversary and it just added an extra OOMPH to my day.  Anywho, my Ride-or-Die makeup friend Stephanie came with.  Check out the pics and the haul video.

Thrifting With Jen

My sister-from-another-mother Jennifer and I decided to plan a day of thrifting whilst our hubbies went off to hunt amd catch our dinner (they went crabbing and let's say we had enough to feed the whole neighborhood).  So, while the men were away, the wives did what else....SHOP!  We knew we didn't want to spend too much, but also wanted to find faulous pieces to add to our wardrobe.  We decided to drive out to New Jersey to a place called Village Thrift.  I had never been.  Now, I'm from New York and pretty much know how to maneuver department stores and all types of shops, but this is the first time a store had me OVERWHELMED.  IT WAS HUGE! There was so much stuff I didn't know where to begin.  I literally stood around for ten minutes with a blank stare, meanwhile Jen piled things in her cart.  Finally, I snapped out of it and did what I do best....lol

Jennifer aka Jenisha Jenkins...lol

I purchased this fabulous burgundy leather vest that Jen found for me

Jen found these Vince Camuto purple shoes for like eight bucks!  They were in excellent condition.  By the way, we wear the same size shoe.  I really wanted to steal these

I love a great coat.  This one was $10 and yes, I bought it...lol

We found two similar jackets in different colors.  But for some reason the pink one was $20 and the black was only $8 or so?  I didn't get it....

I LOVED this coat, but something was a little off with the fit

I loved this shawl on her

Died and gone to Fashion Heaven after discovering these yellow BCBG shoes for $10

These are just a few pics I took of the store.  It still doesn't show the magnitude.  Picture a warehouse full of clothes.  Can't wait till next time!

Whether you purchase new or love to thrift, STAY FAB FREAKING FIERCE!

Creating Deep Waves on Natural Hair

(This was posted in early August)

URGH!!!  Just as I am about to go into hiding with my hair (getting braids for my birthday and all the events I have coming up in September), I happen upon CurlyChronicles' 30's Inspired Side Swept Waves. I've also posted her video on how to achieve those waves. Hopefully it wont get too cold too quickly in the northeast, so I can attempt this style and maybe I'll gain a little more length so the style will hang nicely.

What I Wore

It's funny how you never know what you're missing till you get it.  I am so HAPPY that I get to wear denim to work.  So very, very, happy.  I've been waiting for it to get a little cooler to wear all the fabulous high-waist jeans I purchased over the Winter/Spring.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary to ME

Hello Beautiful People!  I know I've been missing in action for a hot minute.   The months of August and September are always superbly busy for me and the hubster. There are always events that we need to attend (among the many this year, were two weddings back-to-back). September hosts my birthday (the 6th) and then a week later (the 13th) my wedding anniversary. Oh, my SIL’s birthday is August 28th and my MIL’s birthday is September 10th.   My poor, poor (in the literal sense) husband! Anywho, I thank God for 35 years on this earth and 8 wonderful years of marriage. This is the year my Impossible becomes Possible!

Shout outs to all my VIRGOS!!!

Here are a few pics of What I Wore on my anniversary.  We had a full day so an outfit change was in order...lol

How does one get rid of back fat?  Like Seriously??

Part 2

Jumpsuit: H&M, Shoes: Alfani

Stay Fab Freakin Fierce!

My Hair from Kinky to Straight

Last month, after many a frustrations, I decided to get my hair professionally straightened.  I think it was EXACTLY what I needed!  I hadn't had it this straight since having a relaxer (I've had my hair professionally blown out, but not like this).  Although I enjoyed having it like this for awhile (just put it in a ponytail and go), it also made me appreciate my natural texture all the more.
